Job Description
Education:
Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or equivalent work experience or 7+ years work and /or industry related experience.
Experience:
* 7+ years of in-depth troubleshooting experience of complex large scale enterprise application server environment(s) with a minimum of 3 years in an ISP like environment involving 24x7x365 support of those systems.
* Well developed oral and written communications skills and customer-centric attitude with the ability to communicate in both a technical and non-technical manner.
# Experience in some formal ticketing system and a demonstrated ability to work in a metrics based service desk that tracks work through metrics
# In-depth hands-on knowledge, of one, or more specific J2EE application server products (ie.. Weblogic, JBoss, Websphere, and/or Tomcat).
# Must have a knowledge of and be able to demonstrate an understanding, in an operational context, the various components of the J2EE architecture, including but not limited to JDBC, JMS, JMX
# Must have experience in the deployment of J2EE applications in a production environment and a strong knowledge of the processes involved
# In-depth knowledge of OSI layers 1-7 and an ability to troubleshoot and categorize issues accordingly and then engage the appropriate fix agents if they are not able to affect a f
# Must have an understanding of the various components of a large scale enterprise system including, IP routing, TCP traffic analysis, application flows, switches, web servers, web services, DHCP, DNS, SQL/RDB backend systems, IP Management, LDAP, HTTP/XML
# Unix/Linux experience, that includes the basic commands required to effectively troubleshoot, move files, write basic scripts, and quickly differentiate an OS system issue from an application server issue.
# Hands on knowledge and working experience with any enterprise system and application level monitoring solutions. Examples include Netcool, Concord, Wily, Nagios, SevOne, Spectrum, and Network Node Manager.
# Prior knowledge of major MSO (Multi-Service Operator) provisioning systems for video, high speed data services.
Expectations:
* Hands-on experience in several of the following technologies:
- IP Networking protocols and systems including DHCP, DNS, TFTP, ToD, ARP, IP, TCP, UDP, SNMP
- DOCSIS Cable modem technology
- IP subnet management
- CORBA, JAVA, XML
- LDAP Directory Servers
- Sun/Solaris hardware/software platform
- TCP/IP and its various protocols
- Cisco Hardware and IOS (routers, switches, CMTS)
# Strong understanding of UNIX heavily weighted towards Solaris and LINUX
# Ability to troubleshoot and work with other operating systems including Windows
# Strong analytical and problem solving skills
# Outstanding interpersonal, oral, listening and written communication skills
# Ability to independently execute the tasks assigned within the scope of this position.
# Ability to contribute as a team member and work in concert with others to deliver a high level of support to the Service Desk's customers both internal and external
# Solaris/LINUX/UNIX Certification preferred
# Weblogic Certification is a strong plus
