Application Developer – Dedicated to the Fedwire Securities Development Project Area Overview: The Federal Reserve Bank of NY is seeking an experienced professional to work on Fedwire Securities Service applications. Role will include working on development of mainframe (COBOL based) applications, assisting with reviewing and documenting existing mainframe code and providing some assistance with analysis of interfacing distributed (Unix, Java) applications. Applications include real time processing of securities transfers (part of Fedwire), as well as a range of backend applications supporting critical business functions Job Description:• COBOL and general mainframe development for the Securities (NBES) application. • Update detailed documentation of existing legacy system based on findings in existing COBOL code. • Assist team members during analysis phases of the project by looking up application code sections (e.g. COBOL, JCL, IMS Database code) and assisting analysts and other developers by describing functional processing of the code. • Assist team leads in setting up parallel tests of mainframe and distributed application code, setting up comparison tools and assisting with parallel test verification. • Provide assistance with OO design and some distributed system development (Java, Unix Shell scripting) as needed.• Keeps other developers, business analysts, team leads and project managers well informed of progress and results.
Required Skills:
Very skilled with mainframe technologies including strong working knowledge of IMS DB and DC, DB2, COBOL, JCL, TSO, MQSeries, SQL, Xpediter. • Strong communication skills; both written and spoken• Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills• 7+ years of experience in the mainframe environment• Knowledge of distributed system architecture (J2EE, MQ, Oracle), OO design and basic Java development.• Strong knowledge of Word, Excel and productivity tools• Financial Services Industry Experience• Strong initiative, ability to self manage and also work in a team environment Preferred Skills: • Relational Database technology (Oracle preferred) and SQL • Experience with implementing enterprise level and mission critical software applications• Experience with OO modeling tools (e.g. Sparx EA)• Software development lifecycle practices• Agile development methodologies• Sharepoint and project management tools (e.g. Clarity)
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant field of work or equivalent work experience.
